Generously proportioned, wonderfully comfortable and designed with a clean, timeless shape, Bowness is the latest addition to Lake District Sofas by Edward James. It is now on display in both our Kendal and Penrith showrooms, where you can see the collection properly, try it for yourself and explore the many ways it can be configured.

One Collection, Made for Different Homes

One of the great strengths of Bowness is its flexibility.

For a more traditional arrangement, the collection is available as a two, three or four-seater sofa, alongside a generously sized cuddler. For larger rooms and open-plan spaces, individual sofa ends, cuddler ends, corner and armless units can be combined to create a sectional corner sofa suited to the size and shape of your room.

That versatility makes Bowness equally at home in a modern family living space, a Lake District cottage or a more formal sitting room. It can feel substantial without appearing heavy, with softly shaped arms and neat solid-wood feet helping to keep its silhouette balanced.

Comfort That Has Been Properly Considered

The Bowness has been designed to offer the kind of comfort that feels inviting from the first sit but remains supportive for everyday living.

Its fully reversible premium foam seat cushions are wrapped in soft fibre, bringing together lasting support and a more relaxed finish. Pocketed fibre back cushions, supersoft arm pads and luxurious feather-filled scatter cushions add softness in all the right places.

Beneath everything is a frame constructed using hardwood rails and supported by a 25-year frame guarantee. It is a combination of comfort, proper construction and longevity that reflects our approach to furniture: pieces chosen for real homes and made to be enjoyed for years.

Hundreds of Fabrics, Including Aquaclean

Fabric is where the Bowness really becomes your own.

The collection is available in hundreds of colours, patterns and textures, from warm natural shades and tactile neutrals to rich greens, deep blues and confident accent designs. You can choose the upholstery for the sofa before selecting coordinating or contrasting fabrics for the scatter cushions.

For busy family homes, holiday properties and homes with pets, there is also an extensive choice of Aquaclean fabrics. Aquaclean technology helps prevent dirt from penetrating the fibres and allows many everyday household marks to be cleaned using water, combining practical performance with a beautiful finish.

The final detail is a choice of solid-wood feet in either a Light or Smoke finish, allowing the Bowness to sit comfortably alongside both contemporary and traditional interiors.
